EASTER 2014 THEATRE SCHOOLS

The Perth Youth Theatre primarily offers school holiday workshops, or ‘Theatre Schools’ as we like to call them.

Our courses are a fun-packed adventure into the world of theatre, designed for both the experienced thespian as well as newcomers. We audition principal roles on the first morning, rehearse for the remainder of the week, and then stage a performance with full technical back up at the end of the course.

We also run term time drama and glee classes on Wednesday and Friday evenings.

All of our professionally trained staff have police clearances and Working with Children Checks and we also have qualified child care First-Aiders on hand.

Katrina Patient Director/Choreographer

Katrina has been involved within all facets of the performing arts since she can remember. Growing up as a dancer this lead her on to finding her confidence on stage in her drama and choir classes at school. Katrina has performed in numerous productions as a singer, actor and dancer.

She completed her Bachelor of Education and has worked as a primary school teacher, specialising in music and drama, since 2006. Her passion is finding the place for the performing arts in the primary school classroom and promoting the notion that the arts should be considered just as important as all other learning areas.

Katrina is currently the Arts Focus Coordinator at Bold Park Community School.

Trevor Patient Director/Technical

Trevor has produced and directed numerous shows, plays, revues, tours, pantomimes and theatre schools over the last 20 years (he lost count at 300) and considers himself very lucky to be both technically minded as well as creative. He has an extremely broad understanding of all aspects of theatre and production and his entrepreneurial spirit has lead to the creation of countless performances.

He studied music and drama in the UK where he also learned to conduct and he served in The Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment as a TA bandsman. He toured England and Europe with various theatre and dance companies as company/stage manager.

He moved to Perth in 2002 and soon started producing theatre schools and musicals including the very successful ‘Tribute to the Blues Brothers’ which played at nearly every major venue in Perth!

Trevor was the first to study the Stage & Production Management Bachelor of Performing Arts course at The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, where he sometimes works as a casual duty technician.

Helen Gardner Designer/Drama Teacher

Helen has recently joined the PYT team not only as one of our drama teachers but also as our design guru. Her natural creative flare along with her inate ability to doodle make her the ideal candidate for the crazy design world of PYT.

After graduating from Murdoch University with a Bachelor of Media Studies, Helen has focussed her attention on her passion in the performing arts sector, where she has worked for the past couple of years.
